High Five Awards

This evening I was at the Swansea High Five Awards at the Liberty Stadium, where the council along with the many sponsors recognised the remarkable achievements of young people.

The event was co-hosted by Swansea Sound's Siany Martin and Ospreys and Wales international, James King. We also had speeches from the Chief Executive of Swansea Council and the Principal of Gower College Swansea, who are one of the main sponsors of the event.

Children and young people across Swansea do some amazing things as the judges found out. Whether it is through achievement, working for others or caring for someone, there are many inspirational young people in all our local communities, which these awards gave tribute to.

As Lord Mayor, I was asked to present the Group Community Award to South Wales Police Student Volunteers, who have between the five of them given over 600 hours to the multi-agency Swansea Help Point, which acts as a triage on the Strand, providing medical assistance and a safe space for people feeling vulnerable and isolated or feeling the ill-effects of alcohol.

It was an inspiring and enjoyable evening as we celebrated the best of Swansea youth. All the winners are here.
