First Give School Final - Birchgrove Comprehensive School

First Give is a fully-resourced secondary school programme that gets an entire year group of students engaging in social action. It is a charity that goes into local schools and encourages pupils to work with local charities.

The pupils are split into teams, each learning about their chosen cause, meeting them and raising money for them. They then compete in a final presentation evening for a £1,000 cheque from First Give for their charity.

I have been a judge in a couple of these presentation finals, so tonight's in Birchgrove School was not a new experience for me. There were six teams from year seven presenting. Each had chosen a charity, learnt about them and raised funds for them. Now judges had to evaluate and score their presentation and their social action project.

As usual there was a very high standard, with the chosen charities being the Welsh Air Ambulance (twice), Kids Cancer Charity, Ty Olwen (twice) and Samaritans Cymru. All the teams had raised money for their causes through events such as cake sales.

After hearing the presentations, the judges decided to award the £1,000 award to the Wales Air Ambulance.
